Miami Lakes Vice Mayor Bryan Morera credited the Miami Lakes Chamber of Commerce’s members for their contributions to the town and the local economy during a speech on April 9.

“Without you, there would be no flavor, there would be no fun and there would be no fashion in Miami Lakes,” Morera said.

Morera is an attorney who grew up in town, played baseball in Optimist Park and attended local schools. He invited the business professionals to help develop the next 10-year strategic plan.

“This is your time to get involved in your town and have a say in what Miami Lakes will look like,” he said.

At the Miami Lakes Hotel on Main, he also discussed state and county plans for new roads and mobility improvements.

“It’s quite simple,” Morera said. “If it’s a nightmare to get in and out of Miami Lakes, then the customers are not going to want to come and the employees are not going to want to commute.”

The county’s signals and the town’s artificial intelligence devices oversee traffic flow on Northwest 154th Street. Synchronization of the lights can go haywire if the county performs signal maintenance without coordinating with the town.

“We’ve been establishing far superior communications with the county about their changes to signals,” he said, crediting Town Manager Edward Pidermann.

     Other projects he listed are:

--The Turnpike Authority and Miami-Dade County are working  on extending Northwest 170th Street to Florida’s Turnpike and building an interchange there. Work has begun and it may be completed by March 2026.

--The Greater Miami Expressway is scheduled to break ground during fiscal year July 2026 – June 2027 for westbound on and off ramps between Northwest 67th Avenue and the Gratigny Parkway.

--The town is hoping for state legislative approval and funding to extend a westbound lane of Miami Lakes Drive for vehicles turning south on Northwest 77th Court from Miami Lakes Drive.

“These are all critical because what they all do is alleviate the pressure and burden on the Palmetto [Expressway] and [Northwest] 154th [Street],” Morera said about the town’s “hotspot.”

The council and town staff have been advocating with state and county officials for the infrastructure improvements, he said. “While we don’t have executive or legislative authority over any of those projects, we’ve been pushing for them very hard."
