Miami-Dade County Commissioner Esteban Bovo Jr., was officially sworn in as the chairman of the group during an installation ceremony inside the commission chambers at the Stephen P. Clark Center in Downtown Miami.
County Commissioner Audrey Edmonson was sworn in as vice chair.

Miami Lakes Mayor Manny Cid and Councilmember Nelson Rodriguez were on hand for the ceremony, as U.S. Senator Marco Rubio swore in Bovo to lead the 13-member County Commission for a two-year term.

Bovo represents District 13, which includes Miami Lakes, Hialeah and surrounding unincorporated areas.

During his installation speech, Bovo divulged his agenda which includes increasing the responsibilities for government officials instead of relying solely on the administration of County Mayor Carlos Gimenez.

Bovo’s plans also include focusing on transportation funding, construction of courthouse facilities, improving the county’s jail  system, responding to sea-level rise and addressing gun-related violence.

Following the ceremony, Bovo announced the new Commission committee structure and member assignments. In addition to creating seven jurisdictional committees, Bovo announced the creation of a Chairman’s Policy Council charged with addressing issues of countywide concern.
