Miami Lakes seniors can continue to enjoy a host of programming that faced extinction thanks to a $13,000 check from Miami-Dade County Commissioner Esteban Bovo Jr.

The Miami Lakes Adult Education program, which coordinates community classes, senior health wellness fairs, community forums, and social events for senior citizens, was at risk of closing when the program lost state funding during the new fiscal year, October 1 through July 1.

Bovo presented a check to the Miami Lakes Town Council to continue funding for the program. “I feel that this is a critical program for the seniors of Miami Lakes. Our allocation will continue to keep the program operating until the State’s funding is appropriated beginning July 1,” Bovo said.

Senator Rene Garcia was able to appropriate $1.1 million for the program which will go into effect on July 1 for the 2016-2017 class schedule.

Miami Lakes officials and the Town’s Elderly Affairs Committee expressed their appreciation to Bovo and Garcia for their continued support.
