Informational Forum -- Decision Day 2022 Miami Lakes Town Hall, 6601 Main St. Learn about the importance of planning ahead, including about advanced directives, living wills and health care surrogates among other end of life preparation topics. Presented by the Elderly Affairs Committee and Catholic Hospice. Free. 11 a.m.
May 20. End of School Bash. Miami Lakes Youth Center, 6075 Miami Lakes Drive. Kids can celebrate the end of school with a summer bash at The Spot. A night filled with free food and drinks as well as fun and games. Kids can also be registered for summer camp during the event. 5:30 p.m. Free.
May 25. Summer fishing fun. Optimist Park Marina, 6411 NW 162 St. This summer you’ll have multiple opportunities to enjoy fishing at the Optimist Park Marina through June 15. Includes bait, poles and safety vests. 5 p.m. Free.
May 26. Medicare and Much More Lunch and Learn Technology for Seniors. Miami Lakes Town Hall, 6601 Main Street. The Elderly Affairs Committee along with the town will present an educational forum for seniors on the topic of technology and the ways they can use and benefit from technology. 11 a.m. Free. May 30. Memorial Day Celebration presented by the Veterans Committee. Veterans Park, 15151 NW 82 Ave. Mark Memorial Day with a special ceremony at Veterans Park that includes performances of taps and the Star Spangled Banner as well as the winning poem from the Memorial Day poetry contest. Keynote speaker is William Perez, retired colonel, U.S. Marine Corps. There will be a wreath-laying ceremony and a barbecue hosted by the American Legion Post 144. 11 a.m. - noon. Free.
June 3. Deadline to apply for The Graham Companies College Scholarships. The Town of Miami Lakes, The Education Advisory Board and The Graham Companies will be accepting applications for scholarships. Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to two graduating seniors who reside in the Town of Miami Lakes. For more information and how to apply, visit www.miamilakes-fl.gov/eab.
