Council gives key to the town to the Seferlis family

     Miami Lakes Mayor Manny Cid presented a key to the town to Sabrina Seferlis on Feb. 13. She owned Gerardo’s Marketplace on Bull Run Road in Miami Lakes with her late husband Gerardo Seferlis. Sabrina and the couple’s daughter Gabriella kept the business going after Gerardo’s death in 2022 but closed it in December after 25 years in the community. Mourners who attended a celebration of Gerardo’s life filled a ballroom at the Miami Lakes Hotel on Main. 

     “They were always super welcoming…it was that type of mom-and-pop store that brings the community together,” Cid said.  

     “We just wanted to thank you so much, The Graham Companies, the Town of Miami Lakes, they have been through it all with us,” Gabriella Seferlis said. 

     Members of the council shared how they enjoyed the marketplace that was famed for its fresh fruit shakes, deli, salad bar and gourmet gift baskets.
