County mayoral debate set for July 16 in Miami Lakes

Miami-Dade County candidates for mayor will debate at Ana G. Mendez University in Miami Lakes on July 16.
Ambrosio Hernandez, chief anchor of Univision Noticias 23 who is also town resident, will
moderate the 11 a.m. forum.
The town’s Economic Development Committee is presenting the event.
Seven candidates are campaigning for the
county’s top political job. It was not yet announced who will appear at the forum, though all were invited, Miami Lakes Mayor
Manny Cid said.
Former Miami-Dade County Mayor Alex
Penelas, current County Commissioners Esteban Bovo Jr., Daniella Levine Cava and Xavier Suarez are the front-runners.
Political newcomers Monique Barley, an
entrepreneur; Ludmilla
Domond, a real estate agent, and Carlos Antonio De Armas, who owns a trucking business, are also candidates.
County Mayor Carlos Gimenez is term-limited and running in the
Republican primary for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Penelas raised $4 million in campaign funds as of June 26, records show.
Levine Cava raised $3.1 million, Bovo raised $1.5 million and Suarez has $1.4 million in the bank.
The primary election is set for Aug. 18; the general election is Nov. 3.
The forum will be closed to the public but will be livestreamed at https://www.miamilakes-fl.gov/meetings.
