County water disinfection set for Nov. 6 - 20

     Miami-Dade County Water and Sewer Department will use a “somewhat stronger” disinfection and bleaching process than previously performed at regional water plants during its annual chlorine treatment, from Nov 6 - 20, the county said.

     Dialysis patients, owners of tropical fish and managers of restaurants and stores with fish tanks should seek professional advice about how to remove chlorine residuals during this period, the county said.

     The water will be chlorinated, disinfected and safe to drink, according to the county. 

     Residents may notice a slight chlorine taste/odor; lower water pressure when hydrants are being flushed in their areas; temporary discoloration of water (after it flows from hydrants it removes rust and sediment from pipes) and a temporary possibility of higher levels of trihalomethanes (byproducts of disinfection) which the county said will not cause adverse effects.
