Grab your bicycles and scooters! The Town of Miami Lakes Culinary Bike Tour -- when cyclists ride between restaurants to sample small bites – returns Sept. 9.
Riders will take a five-mile nighttime journey through the Lake Katharine, Lake Patricia and Cypress Village shopping centers. It starts and ends on Main Street.
This year, a 14-seat party bike sold out fast. The new feature is “a way to elevate the experience for participants,” said Jonathan Gil, the Town of Miami Lakes marketing and digital service specialist.
Gil said golf carts will not be permitted this year, though scooter riders may join the bicyclists.
The event is open to people who are 21 and older. At the Main Street start, the volunteer safety group Bike305 will provide free helmet fittings.
With a $30 ticket, participants may enjoy samples from Island Fin Poke Co.; NQC; Vicky Bakery; Domenico’s Italian Restaurant; BurgerFi; Cruzeiro Brazilian Steakhouse; Diced; Dr. Limon Ceviche Bar; Acai Express; Chela’s Cocteleria and La Strega Cucina Italiana & Steakhouse.
Additional restaurants may join the event.
Acai Express is participating for the second time this year and Co-Owner Cristina Sanguily said the tour fits with their healthy lifestyle brand and offers regular customers a chance to try different menu items.
“Many of the participants for the culinary bike tour were previous fans of ours…I did see some new faces as well,” Sanguily said.
Bike305 and Miami-Dade Police officers will ride with the crowd to keep them safe.
Last year 171 riders generated over $5,130 in ticket sales that went to the restaurants.
This year ticket sales will fund the town’s production costs, including police.
Riders will leave Miami Lakes Town Hall, 6601 Main St. at 6 p.m. on Sept. 9.
