Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board (EAB) stressed the deadline is approaching on March 31 for applications for the 2017 Miami Lakes Future Leaders Scholarship presented by The Graham Companies.
Two $1,000 scholarships each will be awarded to graduating high school seniors who are residents of Miami Lakes.
All applications must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, March 31, and will be forwarded to the EAB for final selection. Winners will be announced at the May 2 Town Council meeting.
Interested seniors must submit a typed essay (750 words maximum) explaining in his/her own words how they aspire to make the world a better place. The student must demonstrate academic achievement and community service commitment, as well as identify future goals. Winners will have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to their school and their community.
A cover sheet must accompany the essay, along with an official sealed high school transcript, and three letters of recommendation from non-relatives, one of which must be from a teacher or school official.
