In a coordinated effort by the Town of Miami Lakes’ Public Safety Committee, the Town Council and staff, and Miami-Dade County Commissioner Esteban Bovo’s office, new “Don’t Block the Box” signs have been posted adjacent to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue’s Station One on N.W. 67 Avenue near the Palmetto Frontage Road.

The initiative is designed to keep the Station One driveway clear of vehicles which are stopped at the Frontage Road traffic signal to allow emergency vehicles immediate access to the roadway.

The signs warn that drivers who “Block the Box” are subject to a $500 fine.

“This is great news for Miami Lakes residents,” said Vice Mayor Manny Cid. “With these upgrades, we will hopefully see an improvement in response times which will ultimately save lives.”
