Elderly Affairs plans June events for seniors

Miami Lakes Elderly Affairs Committee  (EAC) will host several educational, fun and exciting events for seniors in June.

Caregiver Resource Workshop – To care for those who once cared for us is one of the highest honors possible. A Caregiver Resource Workshop will be sponsored by Miami Jewish Health System’s Florida Pace Centers from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 9, at the Mary Collins Community Center, 15151 N.W. 82 Avenue.

The free event will feature a panel of speakers including Edeline Mondestein, acting chief of Miami-Dade County Elderly, Disability and Veterans Services Bureau; Norma Trabanco, Vitas Caregiver Educator and Support Group Coordinator; Kathy Sarmiento, Shine - Alliance for Aging; Nancy Victoria, Caregiver Support Specialist, Alliance for Aging; Tony Friguls, Caregiver and president of Baba’s Bunch Foundation; and Gary Barg, CEO and editor-in-chief of Today’s Caregiver Magazine.

Defensive Drivers Course – Sign up for EAC’s Defensive Drivers Course taught by the National Safety Council (NSC) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12, at Town Hall, 6601 Main Street.

The cost is $15 per person for the 4-hour training approved b the State of Florida, which consists of videos, books, and a large amount of audience participation. Upon completion of the course, the driver will be provided with a completion certificate for an auto insurance discount.

Lunch Bunch and Bingo – Socialize and make new friends while having fun and enjoying Free nutritious lunches provided by Giardino Gourmet Salads. Two events are scheduled at the Mary Collins Community Center, 15151 N.W. 82 Avenue:

Wednesday, June 13, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and Wednesday, June 27, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., sponsored by Palm Medical Centers.

Marlins Games Field Trips – Miami Lakes resident, 65 and older, receive Free transportation and tickets to Thursday Miami Marlins home games. Tickets are sponsored b y Wellmax Medical Center and transportation is hosted by the EAC and The Graham Companies.

The next field trip is set for Thursday, June 14 at 12:10 p.m. The bus will depart at 9:45 a.m. from Miami Lakes Optimist Clubhouse, 6411 N.W. 162 Street.
