Supported by the Town of Miami Lakes’ Veterans Committee, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, executive director Danny Burgess, and the Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs brought their statewide efforts of earned services and support being provided to veterans in the Miami Lakes region marking the fifth of these regional meetings.
Members from Miami-Dade, Monroe, Collier and Broward counties convened by the Ana G. Mendez University campus in Miami Lakes to identify issues affecting veterans in local communities. With 150 members in attendance, they participated in breakout sessions to discuss workable solutions to address different issues focusing on topics such as housing, mental health, emergency assistance and legal matters.
Following completion of the regional meetings, DeSantis and his office will draft a white paper on veterans’ services, benefits and support which will be used to inform and educate key leaders and influence state legislation that supports about 1.5 million veterans and their families.
