Goleman's Nicole Lugo receives President's Gold Volunteer Service Award

Nicole Lugo, a 10th-grader at Barbara Goleman High School (BGHS), has been honored for her exemplary volunteer service with a President's Volunteer Gold Service Award.
The award, which recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country, was granted by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program. BGHS nominated Lugo for national honors last fall in recognition of her 200+ hours of volunteer service for the Miami-Dade Economic Advocacy Trust's Teen Court Program.
In her role as a volunteer she has served as a Youth Prosecuting Attorney. Lugo has volunteered her services at the North Dade Justice Center, Miami Gardens City Hall and Hialeah City Hall, in the MDEAT Teen Court, a diversion program offered to first-time juvenile offenders. Her role has been to uphold the law, seek justice and advocate for a verdict based on the severity of the offense. She also encourages and promotes law-abiding behavior among her peers.
Lugo believes that she has “directly impacted those individuals that she has prosecuted, having given them an opportunity to reflect on their actions and the ability to become model citizens in the future.”
Principal Dr. Manuel Sanchez III praised Lugo for her accomplishment and commitment to excellence. “Nicole is an amazing student who proudly represents the Goleman family. She deserves all the accolades she’s been awarded.”
The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, sponsored by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), recognizes middle level and high school students across America for outstanding volunteer service.
