The community is invited to attend a Miami Lakes Town Hall meeting on the Greenways and Trails Master Plan at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7, in the Council Chambers at the Government Center, 6601 Main Street.
The plan will be presented by Tony Lopez, director of Community and Leisure Services.
Miami Lakes received grant funding through the Miami-Dade Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) to develop a Greenways and Trails Master Plan to create a non-motorized transportation system to connect communities, schools, parks and businesses.
The plan focuses on key elements of non-motorized transportation including pedestrian pathways, bicycle trails, shared-use paths, recreational greenways, and connections to mass transit, thereby optimizing walking and bicycling as healthy, clean transportation options.
The plan highlights five areas for commuter trail development located at N.W. 77 Court; Canal Trail between Leaning Pine Drive and N.W. 67 Avenue; N.W. 67 Avenue, N.W. 87 Avenue, and N.W. 154 Street. The trail system branches off from these major corridors to incorporate scenic areas throughout the town’s neighborhoods.
The community may also view the plan on the town’s website at miamilakes-fl.gov/trails, and submit feedback to trails@miamilakes-fl.gov.
