The Miami-Dade Transportation Planning Organization Board passed Agenda Item 5 A.2 in late May, a resolution approving an amendment to its 2040 Long Range Transportation Plan to include the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority (MDX) N.W. 67 Avenue partial interchange to S.R.. 924/Gratigny Expressway, as requested by the Town of Miami Lakes.
This amendment was crucial to secure MDX funding for the project. Vice Mayor Tony Lama and Town Manager Alex Rey attended the meeting and spoke in support of the resolution, helping to secure over $26 million in funding for planning, design and construction.
The project intends to create a partial interchange on N.W. 67 Avenue to connect to the Gratigny. There will be a westbound on and off ramp to the Gratigny from N.W. 67 Avenue, and an on-ramp eastbound to the Gratigny. MDX has included the project in the five-year Work Program for FY 18-22, and is expected to begin the Design/Build Phase in the fall of 2018.
Once completed, the project will relieve congestion by offering residents another access point to the expressway and is expected to help relieve traffic from N.W. 154 Street by distributing the flow of traffic.
Residents will be able to go eastbound to I-95/Downtown area through the on-ramp connection, and will be able to get off at N.W. 67 Avenue going westbound if they are coming from I-95/Downtown area.
The Gratigny will also be extended to the Turnpike so residents will also be able to access the Turnpike by using the westbound ramp without having to go through Hialeah or the Palmetto.
