Miami Lakes recently kicks off its new E-Reader Lending Program with a workshop on May 27 at Miami Lakes Branch Library. During the event, the Town announced the start of the new program and residents were able to borrow the E-Readers for the first time.
The branch library also presented a workshop on how to download free E-books using the Miami-Dade Public Library System’s website and library card.
The new program, introduced by Vice Mayor Manny Cid, encourages reading through the use of technology and provides an opportunity for residents to borrow an E-Reader for a three-week period of time.
E-Readers are pre-loaded with a selection of contemporary fiction, contemporary non-fiction and classics, short stories, essays and novellas.
“The E-Reader initiative kickoff and workshop was a great success,” said Cid. “The MDPLS and Miami Lakes partnership will truly enhance our residents’ library experience.”
Residents may checkout an E-Reader at the Government Center, 6601 Main Street, 2nd floor reception, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and must provide a valid photo ID, proof of residency, and a $20 cash refundable cash deposit.

In a related development, Cid and Councilmember Tony Lama have proposed a plan to make Miami Lakes an “Amazon Community” to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, whose business development team is currently reviewing the proposal.
In their proposal, Cid and Lama said they want to further encourage their residents to embrace technology by completely transforming the way a municipal government engages with their residents.
The elected officials’ vision for the town includes a customized Amazon Kindle Fire in all 10,000 condos and homes in Miami Lakes bringing the power of the Amazon Kindle Fire and the entire network of Amazon products and services to every home in the town.
Via Amazon Kindle Fire, residents could access an application where Miami Lakes residents could receive real time alerts on upcoming events, and receive push polls for new capital investment ideas.
