Negotiations for Town Manager Edward Pidermann’s contract have been tabled until after the November elections.
Following two meetings in September led by Councilman Steven Herzberg, neither Pidermann nor the council could come to an agreement regarding his new contract.
The plan now is to hold a third meeting following the budget proceedings and the 2026 elections. At that meeting, Pidermann can agree to take the contract presented to him by Herzberg, or the council can begin the process to search for a new town manager.
Pidermann’s contract expires in February 2027, and the council would need four months to begin the process of finding a new town manager.
The town’s most recent offer to Pidermann was a two-year contract, with no raises, and a flat $10,000 for his insurance payout.
At the meeting held on September 10, Pidermann wanted to have his current insurance payout of $40,000 spread to other aspects of his contract. Pidermann gets his insurance through a retirement plan from the City of Miami, his previous employer.
Another point of contention for some councilmembers is a performance improvement plan clause added by Councilman Alex Sanchez.
Following the meeting, the group agreed to hold off on the contract until after the election to see what happens with the proposed Amendment 3 to drastically alter property taxes.
The date for the November meeting has not been set.
