As part of the Town of Miami Lakes’ campaign for transparency in government, Mayor Manny Cid has added a new social media component called “Miami Lakes Live” which is streamed live on the Town’s Facebook page.
“I call this ‘reality politics’ and it is a very exciting new venture,” Cid told The Miami Laker.
Several segments have already been streamed live including Cid waking across the closed N.W. 154 Street I-75 overpass to discuss its possible opening, another walking session with other councilmembers previewing the popular Miami Lakes Farmers Market, and a up-close-and-personal tour with the Town’s operations chief Tony Lopez of the soon-to-be completed Optimist Clubhouse.
Cid explained the reason to move to social media. “We had been using emails to reach out to the community and it was just not working, we had to reach a larger audience.
“Our Facebook page has over 5,000 followers and streaming live has allowed us to expand our reach. For example, we did a ‘Miami Lakes Live’ segment immediately following our March council meeting and we had 1,500 followers watching that video.”
Residents can share the Town’s social media offerings by signing into Facebook and “like” the Town of Miami Lakes page.
