Mayor's assistant Joseph Sosa visits hard of hearing students

Government Wednesday, May 30, 2018

Joseph Sosa, who runs the day-to-day operations for Miami Lakes Mayor Manny Cid’s office, has taken on the task of visiting local deaf and hard of hearing students in the town.

Unbeknownst to a lot of people, Sosa, who previously worked as a legislative aide for State Representative Manny Diaz Jr., was born deaf and was fortunate enough to have doctors install an implant at the age of 27 which allowed him to hear for the first time in his life.

Sosa will be spending some time at Barbara Coleman Senior High School visiting these students and giving them hope they will be able to hear and speak, and using his sign language skills with the students.

The pupils will also pay a visit to Miami Lakes Town Hall and Sosa will be working to ensure that the government building is fully inclusive. “Proud of his willingness to share his story with others and inspire our young people that may be going through similar struggles,” said Cid.
