Miami-Dade County Commissioners Rebecca Sosa, Jose “Pepe Diaz and Audrey Edmonson, Commission Chairman Esteban Bovo Jr., and Mayor Carlos Jimenez were on hand during the county’s Remembrance Memorial for first responders who lost their lives during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York.

The event took place at the Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Tropical Park on the 17th anniversary of the attacks.

Thousands of local police officers and firefighters also paid an emotional tribute to their fallen colleagues.

“We must never forget those who made the ultimate sacrifice for friends and strangers,” said Miami-Dade Fire Chief Dave Downey.
