Miami Lakes Branch Library sets events for adults and kids in April

Miami Lakes Branch Library announced the following programs that are available for the public during April:
For Children and Families:
Movies and Stories for Kids – Watch favorite movies with family and friends. Movies being shown this month are “Brave,” “Dolphin Tale,” “Disneynature Earth,” and “WALL-E.” Events made possible by the Town of Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board at 3 p.m. on Wednesdays, April 17 and 24.
Talking is Teaching. Talk, Read, Sing for Toddlers – Stories, songs and activities for toddlers. Best for ages 18 months to 3 years old at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 18.
Crafty Little Fingers – Participants will make a variety of craft projects. Smaller toddlers may need help. No registration needed. Scheduled for 11 a.m. on Tuesdays, April 23 and 30.
Science in the City – Going Haywire. Learn how to build circuits that can turn on lights, robots and other cool gadgets with hands-on lessons infused with experiments to spark interest in STEM. Space is limited. Contact branch to register. Best for ages 8-12 years. Made possible by the Manifezt Foundation at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 27.
Introduction to Robotics and Coding – During this fun two-hour workshop, participants will learn how to code games and work in teams on exciting robotics projects. Presented by Boding Doctors Kids Club and best for ages 8 to 16 years at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 20.
My Gym Presents - A special class at the Branch Library will have a variety of different skills and activities for children from a welcome song and warm up to gymnastics skills, dances, songs, games, puppet shows and much more. Event is scheduled for Thursday, April 25 at 11 a.m.
For Teens:
Teen Club – Play video games, watch anime, draw, participate in STEAM activities and move. Contact the branch for details. Events scheduled at 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, April 22 and 29.
Retro Game Night - Play retro video games on the big screen or classic board games around the table at 4:30 p.m. on Mondays, April 22 and 29.
For Adults:
American Sign Language Workshop – A six-week workshop designed to provide students with a language and cultural foundation in American Sign Language and Deaf culture. Learn the alphabet, everyday signs and more. Space is limited. Contact branch to register. Best for ages 8 years and up at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 27.
Purls of Wisdom – Learn basic knitting and stitching. Materials will be provided. Best for ages 18 and up at 2 p.m. on Tuesdays, April 23 and 30.
Strum the Lute: Tai Chi for Beginners – Practice this ancient tradition and learn gentle movements to increase strength, flexibility and balance. Class is led by library staff. Best for ages 18 and up at 11 a.m. on Wednesdays, April 17 and 24.
Meditation – Join in mediation derived from Raja Yoga, a discipline that helps develop inner calm, clear thinking and personal well-being. Meets at 11 a.m. on Fridays, April 19 and 26.
Become a Foster Parent or Adoptive Parent - An orientation on how to become a foster parent in Miami-Dade County, including a comparable overview of the requirements and expectations of the process. Meets at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24.
Mario Diaz-Balart Outreach Table - A member of Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart’s staff will be available to discuss federal issues and address any concerns a constituent may have with a federal agency, at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24.
Miami Lakes Branch Library is located at 6699 Windmill Gate Road and is open Monday and Tuesday from noon to 8 p.m., and Wednesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The branch is closed on Sundays. For more information, call 305-822-6520.
