Miami Lakes Chamber hosts Commissioner Esteban Bovo at April 10 luncheon meet

Miami-Dade County Commissioner Esteban Bovo Jr., is the guest speaker for the Miami Lakes Chamber of Commerce membership meeting and luncheon which is scheduled for 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 10, at Don Shula’s Hotel.
Bovo was elected in 2011 to serve as the County Commissioner representing District 13, which includes Hialeah, Miami Lakes, Palm Springs North, and neighboring areas of unincorporated Miami-Dade. On December 6, 2016, Bovo was elected Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners for the 2017-2018 term.
Bovo commenced his public service when he was appointed Councilman for the City of Hialeah in 1998. After being re-elected twice, Bovo’s colleagues selected him as President of the Hialeah City Council and he remained in that capacity throughout his term.
In 2008, Bovo was elected as State Representative for District 110 and was re-elected without opposition in 2010. During his tenure in the Florida Legislature, he was an outspoken advocate for the historic Hialeah Park and worked diligently towards its re-opening. Throughout the 2009 legislative session, he also sponsored a resolution naming May as "A Safe Haven for Newborns Month," in recognition of the Gloria M. Silveiro Foundation.
Bovo continued to focus his legislative agenda on the betterment and safety of the community by sponsoring the Ashley Nicole Valdes Act, which requires defendants who have been arrested for leaving the scene of a fatal accident to be held in custody until a judge’s ruling. Due to his tenacity and dedication to public service, his colleagues in the Florida Legislature nominated him as Chairman of the Hispanic Legislative Caucus and was subsequently chosen to chair the Committee of Business Regulation in Tallahassee.
Bovo, while Chairman of the County Commission, restructured the commission committee system and established a Chairman’s Policy Council to address several key issues facing the community. The Policy Council was tasked with developing recommendations to address issues such as mass transit expansion funding, courthouse and jail infrastructure funding, sea level rise, housing affordability, and gun violence epidemic.
