Miami Lakes K-8 students study history with field trip to Boston

Miami Lakes K-8 Center (MLK8) seventh- and eighth-grade students had the opportunity to explore the foundations of United States history on their recent study trip to Boston, Massachusetts on March 15-17. The students and their chaperones got a first hand look at what life was like for native American tribes and early pilgrim settlers while visiting Plimouth Plantation.
Their experience jumped forward in time as the group walked the Freedom Trail and learned about important milestones of the American Revolution. The arts were featured in this trip as the group visited Walden Pond and learned about Ralph Waldo Emerson’s life story.
The students also visited the House of Seven Gables in Salem and learned how it inspired Nathaniel Hawthorne’s namesake book. The group also explored Boston’s modern history with trips to the Prudential Center’s Skywalk viewing platform for a magnificent sunset over Fenway Park and an early morning trip to the New England Aquarium. As one last added bonus, a majority of the students got to see snow for the first time.
