Have you ever driven over a pot hole, or walked over a broken sidewalk and wanted to report it, but just didn’t have the time? “Lakes Life Mobile” now enables residents to submit service requests such as pot holes and sidewalk damage right from their phone.
Simply take a picture and the app will find the location. The request is immediately routed to the appropriate department, and the person submitting the item will be notified the instant it is received and resolved.
Residents can also sign up to receive event reminders and traffic and weather alerts.
This new award-winning mobile app, proposed by Councilmember Tony Lama, can be used on all Apple and Android products. With the app, the town looks to boost citizen interaction, improve efficiency, and help increase response times for resident and business requests.
"This initiative is about transparency, accountability, and better communication with our residents," said Lama. "As a council member, it allows me to better understand where we are doing well, and what areas need improvements. For example, an increased number of requests from a particular park will help us reevaluate how we are delivering services. Is it an issue with a contractor? Are we understaffed? Should we augment services? This provides us tremendous oversight."
With 90 percent of the population toting a cell phone, and more than half using a smartphone, the phone is quickest way to connect.
“We also need to be aware of the changing demographics,” Lama said. “Millennials will soon have a tremendous amount of buying power. We want to attract them to Miami Lakes by providing them channels of engagement they don’t get in other municipalities.”
“Lakes Life” also allows users to access the Town of Miami Lakes Marketplace, a tool for residents and visitors to discover the many services locally-owned businesses provide which makes Miami Lakes a special community with a “hometown” feel.
“Lakes Life” users can also access the Town’s online business director, track the Town’s Moover busses in real-time, and much more.
