Celebrate the nation’s independence and enjoy fireworks and other family-friendly activities thanks to the Town of the Miami Lakes and its Cultural Affairs Committee and Special Needs Advisory Board.
The annual Fourth of July Celebration will once again take place at Veterans Park, 15151 NW 82nd Ave., with plenty to do from the start at 6:30 p.m. leading up to the fireworks display launched from Graham Dairy Lake at 9 p.m.
This year’s event is sponsored by The Graham Companies; Memorial Healthcare Systems; Morera Law Group, P.A.; Miami Lakes AutoMall; Planet Fitness and Cigna Healthcare.
The Kid Zone is sponsored by Prestige Windows & Doors and TRU Legal and will feature lawn games like a nine-hole miniature golf course, a water spray race and a sports challenge game.
The Jackson Bunn Group will play music.
Sixteen food trucks will sell everything from pizza to Latin-Asian fusion.
A sensory inclusive zone hosted by the Special Needs Advisory Board will also be back this year, held inside the Mary Collins Community Center.
Visitors in need of a break from the festivities can go into the zone where there will be games and 25 sets of noise reducing headphones that will be
distributed on a first come, first serve, basis.
“The room will have sensory-friendly activities and spaces to relax and enjoy the program from within the air conditioning,” Special Needs Advisory Board Chair John Rogger said in an email. “We will be open from the start of the event until the end of the fireworks show.”
Visitors are encouraged to bring picnic blankets, beach chairs and towels and coolers.
Not allowed in the park are sparklers; fireworks; pets; grills; staked umbrellas; flag poles or alcohol.
Visitors are encouraged to follow the signs for free parking in lots surrounding the park and as shown in the map.
