The Town of Miami Lakes has been chosen as the starting location for the 10th Annual Bike305 Bike to Work Day on March 9.
Cyclists joining the 6-mile ride will depart from Miami Lakes Town Hall at 6601 Main St. and finish at Amelia Earhart Park in Hialeah.
The day will begin with helmet fittings at 7:30 a.m., followed by remarks from Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and other guests.
Bike305 is a county initiative that promotes cycling for health, commuting and sustainability, according to its website.
The intersection of Main Street and New Barn Road in front of Town Hall will be closed for the event.
Miami-Dade Police officers will escort the riders during the trip that is to begin at 8:25 a.m.
Riders will travel west along Main Street, east on Miami Lakes Drive, south on Northwest 60th Avenue (which turns into West 8th Avenue in Hialeah) then east along East 68th Street and East 65th Street to the park.
Residents who live near Town Hall can expect street closures and no street parking in the area on Tuesday, March 8, said William Sanchez, leisure services manager for the town.
Sanchez said streets around Town Hall are scheduled to reopen to vehicular traffic at about 9:30 a.m. on March 9.
The ride is open to all residents who would like to participate and registration isn’t required. There will be a small station for minor bike repairs. There will also be refreshments for participants.
Miami Lakes was chosen Bike305 Municipality of the Year award in 2019 and the ride was postponed until this year.
The county will also present an award to the City of Opa-Locka for promoting community bike rides and a commitment to bicycle safety during 2021, the county said.
Vans and bike trailers will be available for riders to return to Town Hall in Miami Lakes.
