The Miami Lakes Town Foundation is accepting applications for its mini-grant program.
The foundation’s mission -- funded with proceeds from the annual Miami Lakes Food & Wine Festival – is to provide seed money for projects that foster community engagement and civic pride.
Past recipients include students, Boy Scouts and educators whose grants paid for such varied causes as planting orchids in town parks, buying string instruments for an elementary school, a course for new ways to teach math and even a pickleball program at a K-8 Center.
The foundation will consider applications for projects that encourage literacy, youth development, beautification and cultural enrichment in the community.
This year, it said special consideration will be given to applications that “incorporate a kindness component, highlighting efforts that promote compassion, inclusion and community unity.”
The Town Foundation board members are President Edward Pidermann, who is the town manager; Treasurer Kay Grant, who is the town’s Chief Financial Officer; Secretary Gina Inguanzo, who is the Town Clerk; Director Clarisell De Cardenas, who is Director of Communications and Community Affairs in Miami Lakes, and Director Fred Senra, partner, Miami Lakes AutoMall and Chair of the Planning & Zoning Board.
To be considered for a grant, submit applications by Nov. 30. Awards will be announced Dec. 10 and checks distributed Dec. 19.
