Town of Miami Lakes announced the release of its Annual Report for the fiscal year (October 1, 2014 to September 30, 2015) which outlines the accomplishments over the last year and the status of all major areas of responsibility.

“The past year has been full of accomplishments thanks to the Town’s diligent staff, elected officials, and residents,” said Town Manger Alex Rey.

Over the last 50 years, Miami Lakes has progressed from a dream on paper into reality. The community is nationally recognized as one of the best examples of unique and innovative town planning.

Miami Lakes’ residential component is essentially built out with only a handful of parcels that are undeveloped so the focus is shifting on economic development and redevelopment.

In September, the Town Council approved zoning changes to allow for the Miami Lakes Town Center District which has been envisioned since the original master plan for the Town as a walkable, mixed-used area similar to a traditional small town “Main Street.”

Other highlights of the previous year include the opening of MDFD Fire Station 64, adoption of the Greenways and Trails Master Plan, completion of the N.W. 170 Street Greenway PH-II project, launching of the Lakes Life mobile app, securing a total of $1,609,329 in grants, and hosting of a Transportation Summit to addressed traffic issues in the Town.
