Miami Lakes recently awarded a $1.8 million contract for work to begin on the new Optimist Park Clubhouse. Construction is scheduled to begin this month on the new, modern clubhouse building that will provide the Town with much needed indoor public recreational space and serve as a home for the Miami Lakes Optimist Club. The original clubhouse was demolished in September 2013.

“Within the next few weeks, the Town will be breaking ground on our state-of-the-art designed Optimist Park Clubhouse,” said Mayor Wayne Slaton. “We are excited about the amenities that this new facility will provide to our sports teams and all our athletic programming. This is just the beginning of our total redesign and long awaited makeover for our ball park. We look forward to a first-class facility, our residents deserve it.”

The new clubhouse, a 5,000 square-foot facility includes multi-purpose rooms, concession stand, administrative offices, and additional parking. Highlight of the facility will be the Miami Lakes Sports Hall of Fame, initiated by Vice Mayor Manny Cid and funded through a private sponsorship donation. The Hall of Fame will commemorate professional sports figures that have lived, or live in the Miami Lakes area. The project is slated for completion in late summer 2015.

Future plans for the Town’s largest active park include the realignment of the ball fields, central concession stand, reconstruction of the basketball/tennis courts, and anew ball field lighting system.
