The Town of Miami Lakes announced its Planning and Zoning director, Darby Delsalle, received the Southeast Florida Project Recognition for Smart Growth Excellence Award, due to his transformative work with the Village of Palmetto Bay.

The complete Downtown Master Plan is an out-of-the-box comprehensive approach to land use, zoning, and transportation planning that utilizes multidisciplinary tools to facilitate a prosperous downtown.

Self-fashioned as “Community Centered Market Based Sustainability,” the holistic approach melds the community’s expectation with professional research and measurement to arrive at a plan that is both nimble to market forces and reflective of realistic expectations.

DelSalle’s plan establishes a long term, unified version for an urban core that includes policies to guide implementation of a transportation-oriented mixed-use downtown. This is the second award Delsalle has received for this plan.
