Public Safety officers and firefighters are honored

Miami Lakes Public Safety Committee and Town Council members recognized the exceptional service of local police officers, firefighters and public safety officials at the annual Public Safety Appreciation event held in May at the Mary Collins Community Center.
The event was sponsored by The Graham Companies, local restaurant Salata Kitchen, and catered by Exquisite Catering. The Innovation was given by Deacon Juan Gonzalez of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church.
Miami Lakes Police Major Javier Ruiz presented Police Officer of the Year award to Lieutenant Jose Gonzalez for his exceptional valor in service and upholding traditions of law enforcement.]
Miami-Dade County Fire Chief Garcia presented the Firefighter of the Year award to Firefighter Tony Ibanez for his dedication to providing outstanding fire and emergency services.
A Proclamation from the Mayor’s office was given to the family of the late Keven Morejon. a dedicated and missed member of the Public Safety Committee and Youth Activities Task Force. The proclamation declared May 18,2019 as Keven Morejon Day.
Salata Kitchen provided generous gift certificates and discount cards. Other surprise raffle prizes were donated b Public Safety Committee chair Nancy Roger, and Miami Lakes Food & Wine Festival coordinator Lynn Matos donated general and VIP tickets to the 2020 festival for the raffle.
This annual event takes place in conjunction with National Police Appreciation week and International Firefighters Day but it is with the outstanding dedication and initiative of these men and women year-round which has helped to make the Town of Miami Lakes one of the safest communities in the state year after year.
