Qualifying for the Miami Lakes town council races and mayoral election began today and will run through noon on Aug. 7.
Candidates for seats 1, 3, 5 and the mayor will need to have submitted paperwork with Town Elections Supervisor Gina Inguanzo to be on the Nov. 5 ballot.
Two candidates may win election on Aug. 7 if no one else qualifies.
So far, both Juan Carlos Fernandez and Steven Herzberg are unopposed in their races.
Juan Carlos Fernandez is currently running for Seat 3 and Herzberg, who has qualified as of July 29, is running for Seat 5.
The contest for Seat 1 has candidates Mario O. Pinera Jr. and Angelo Cuadra Garcia. Neither one had filed the required paperwork as the qualifying period began Monday.
Councilman Josh Dieguez, Vice Mayor Tony Fernandez and business owner Yuniett Gonzalez are vying for mayor.
In that race, Tony Fernandez had qualified as of July 29.
