On June 25, State Representative Manny Diaz Jr., and Miami-Dade County Commissioner Esteban Bovo Jr., hosted a town hall meeting in Miami Lakes at Royal Oaks Park Community Center to discuss issues affecting area residents and their experiences at the recent Legislative Session in Tallahassee.
Annexation was the gist of residents’ concerns after hearing rumors the town was mulling adding an unincorporated area north of the 6.5 square-mile town.
But the rumors were put to bed, and the town will remain the same size and continue to give residents the small town ambiance.
Both lawmakers discussed securing money for Miami Lakes storm water drainage projects, and explained the Pets Trust item, and water and sewer tax increases.
Diaz said, “The town hall meeting was a great success, we had the opportunity to discuss the 2013 legislative session, interact with residents and listen to their concerns.
“I am especially proud to highlight the $300,000 we were able to secure from the state for a water drainage project on the west side of Miami Lakes to provide much needed relief from flooding for our residents. I want to thank Commissioner Bovo for taking time out of his busy schedule to join us and special thanks to the Mayor and town council for their support and allowing us to host this great event in the town.”
