Rodriguez says he will run for mayor of Miami Lakes in 2024

Miami Lakes Vice Mayor Nelson Rodriguez, who's term-limited in November, said he plans to run for town mayor in four years.
Rodriguez told The Miami Laker Monday about his future goals, which include retiring next year after more than three decades in the fire service, as a Coral Gables firefighter-paramedic.
"As of now I’m planning to run for mayor in 2024," Rodriguez said in an email.
Mayor Manny Cid, who automatically won reelection this year when he drew no challengers, will be term-limited in 2024.
Rodriguez, 53, sought to become state representative for District 103 but lost the GOP primary in August to Miramar attorney Thomas Fabricio.
Fabrizio is challenging incumbent Rep. Cindy Polo, D-Miramar, in the general election on Nov. 3.
Rodriguez and his wife, Lisa Rodriguez, a nurse, both tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this year and have since recovered.
Rodriguez was first elected on to the town council in 2012 and reelected in 2016, according to the town.
He has served as vice mayor for part of 2017 and councilmembers elected him for the post in 2018 and 2019.
