Miami Lakes Neighborhood Improvement Committee will co-host a County Community Meeting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, in Council chambers at Town Hall, 6601 Main Street.
The meeting, held in partnership with County Commission chairman Esteban Bovo Jr. and the County’s Special Taxing District Division, will educate attendees on the recent County Charter amendment that was passed on the November ballot which provided municipalities the authority to manage and create districts that sit fully within their boundaries.
A Special Taxing District is a designated area where a majority of property owners agree to a special property tax in exchange for a specific service. These districts give communities the opportunity to make improvements in the public areas of their neighborhoods which could not be conveniently or equitably done otherwise.
These types of improvements include street lighting, security guard services, guardhouses, multipurpose maintenance, and capital improvements/road maintenance.
