The Town of Miami Lakes and its Cultural Affairs Committee will feature the country of Venezuela during its Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration on Oct. 15.
National Hispanic Heritage Month is observed Sept. 15 – Oct. 15 in the United States to recognize the achievements and contributions of Latin Americans.
Each year, the town’s committee explores a different country and its cultures through food, music, dance and art.
This year’s choice is located along the northern coast of South America. It is very much in the news for its political turmoil and citizens who are fleeing to take sanctuary in the United States.
“It’s going to be a fun time,’’ said Neill Robinson, chair of the committee. “We’ll have authentic food, authentic dress and just their entire culture will be on full display.
“It gives people an opportunity to be immersed in a culture,” Robinson said.
“Hopefully it helps all of us to understand each other’s cultures and appreciate that,” he said.
Francisca Charcoal Chicken & Meats restaurant in Miami Lakes will provide appetizers and Bosco will serve gelato. There will be a DJ and folk dancing, too, at the free event.
It will be held Saturday, Oct. 15 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. at Miami Lakes Town Hall, 6601 Main St.
