The state of Florida awarded the Town of Miami Lakes a $3 million grant toward the costs of the Northwest 59 Avenue extension and bridge project. The money is from the Local Support Grant program, issued through the state House of Representatives. Town Manager Edward Pidermann said the grant was sponsored by Sen.-Elect Bryan Avila, R-Miami Springs. Pidermann said additional federal funds are expected to be approved by Congress in December that will also go toward the Northwest 59th Avenue project.

The state also awarded a $912,419 grant for the third and fourth phases of the Royal Oaks Drainage Improvement Projects.  Shown in September, from left: Public Works Engineer Omar Santos Baez, who was promoted to direct the department; former Public Works Director Carlos Acosta; District 110 state Rep.
