The Graham Companies has entered into an agreement with the Town of Miami Lakes that would require the developers to donate the Par 3 golf course to the public for a passive park within the next decade.

The golf course has five lakes on 33 acres. The parcel is shaped like an upside down F.

It is west of the Palmetto Expressway and Northwest 77th Avenue, between Miami Lakes Drive to the north and Twin Sabal Drive at the southern end.

Nicklaus Children’s Outpatient Center and other buildings on Wellness Way are along its western border.

“What the agreement does is it memorializes a long-standing proffer from the Grahams,” Deputy Town Attorney Lorenzo Cobiella said. “They gave the town a term limit to take it as is, within 10 years. If there is remediation to do, the town has to do it.”

The council approved the agreement at its April 21 meeting.

Cobiella said the agreement gives the town time to inspect the property “and do its due diligence.”

Passive parks are used for walkers, joggers, photographers and bird watchers. They can host butterfly gardens, sculptures and other art installations, playgrounds and exercise stations. This green space cannot be converted into fields for organized sports.
