Town announces changes in landscape maintenance to restrict use of glyphosate

All landscape maintenance vendors at Town of Miami Lakes park properties, right of ways, medians, cul de sacs and landscape areas are no longer utilizing products containing glyphosate as of April 1, according to a news release from the town.
An initiative proposed by Councilmember Jeffrey Rodriguez to restrict the use of this product due to the evidence about the dangerous exposure to glyphosate-based herbicides was discussed at the December 2018 council meeting.
The vendors, properties managed and new products being used include:
• Superior Landscape (pocket parks, right of ways and medians) has transitioned to Tribune.
• SFM (beach parks) has transitioned to Tribune.
• VisualScape (Miami Lakes Picnic Park West and East) has transitioned to Tribune.
• BrightView (Miami Lakes Optimist Park and Landscape/Cul De Sac areas) has transitioned to Finale.
• Greensource (Royal Oaks Park) has transitioned to Scythe (AI-Pelargonic Acid).
The fiscal impact for this town-wide transition is approximately $3,000 annually. The town plans to incorporate language in future contracts restricting the use of Glyphosate-based produces for any future solicitations for landscape maintenance areas.
