At the July 25 Town Council meeting, several community members were recognized for their accomplishments and community support.
The Barbara Goleman Varsity baseball team was recognized for winning the District Championship. It was the 4th District Championship won by the team in the last five years. Overall, the team has won 15 District Championships since the opening of the school in 1995.
Safari Ltd., a local family-owned worldwide manufacturer and distributor of award-winning “Toys that Teach®,” was recently honored by the South Florida Business Journal as one of the 25 healthiest employers, and the Gold Level Award from the Florida Tobacco Cessation Alliance. Safari has worked diligently to produce a healthier lifestyle in the workplace.
Mr. and Mrs. Renee Gomez were announced as the winners of the 2017 Home Beautification Contest presented by the Town’s Neighborhood Improvement Committee. In conjunction with he “I Heart Miami Lakes” campaign, the contest recognizes residents who take special pride in improving their homes and landscaping. The Gomez family also received a $1,000 Home Depot gift card to allow for continued improvements to their home.
Miami Lakes resident and local business owner Agustin Reyes III was honored for his successful 90 years in business. Augustin Reyes, Inc. was founded in 1927 by Agustin Francisco Reyes who started his perfume company in Havana, Cuba. His extraordinary vision and his legacy continues years later lead by his son Austin W. Reyes III.
Their first product “Agua de Colonia de Agustin Reyes” was an instant hit. It garnered prestige and popularity which made the company a recognized name throughout the country. Later they launched “Locion Violetas Rusas,” which became their most popular product that has lasted generations.
