Miami Lakes recently received a grant from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) to supplement the Town’s police department budget for the school resource officer project.
The FDLE Justice Assistance Grant will allow the department to conduct additional Crime Prevention Presentation at local schools and provide additional resources to patrol neighborhoods around schools in an effort to deter loitering during and after school hours.

The Project also strives to address specific truant behaviors and provide education to students on the dangers of negative decisions, and increase the probability of students becoming positive role models in their schools and community.

“This funding will enable the Town police to partner with our schools in making sure that none of our children are walking the streets and putting themselves at risk during school hours,” said Mayor Michael Pizzi. “Truancy and not going to school are a leading cause of our kids getting into trouble and developing bad habits.”
