Town lists appropriation requests to state legislature

The Town of Miami Lakes released a list of eight items it has enlisted lobbyist Nelson Diaz, managing partner of The Southern Group, to push for in the next state legislative session.

Legislators convene Jan. 11, 2022; the session is scheduled to end March 11.

The projects add up to $3,127,000 in requested appropriations:

1. Northwest 164th Terrace, drainage improvements in the Royal Oaks community, $500,000;
2. Northwest 163rd Terrace, drainage improvements in the Royal Oaks community, $495,000;
3. Northwest 162nd Street, drainage improvements in the Royal Oaks community, $525,000;
4. Northwest 79th Avenue, drainage improvements in the Royal Oaks community, $557,000;
5. Northwest 154th Street, extension of the Palmetto Expressway southbound left turn lanes road improvement project, $400,000;
6. Senior Community Center, to fund interior buildout and utilities, $500,000. The exterior construction at an estimated cost of $1.2 million is being donated by The Graham Companies);
7. Picnic Park West, two- way scenic bicycle trail, $150,000;
8. Florida Retirement System opt out clause, to support voluntary municipal participation.
