After protests for freedom began in Cuba on July 11, South Florida residents and elected officials who are of Cuban descent have asked President Joseph Biden for help, held rallies and marches and created videos in support of the people of the island nation.

For the Miami Lakes town council’s July 13 meeting, several officials brought out their guayabera shirts, a style said to have originated in Cuba that is worn in hot weather climates.
