The Town of Miami Lakes was recently awarded a $100,000 grant from the Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) Beautification Council for a highway beautification project along the heavily-traveled section of State Road 826 (Palmetto Expressway) trailing northbound from Miami Lakes Drive.

As a community with numerous elevated expressways passing along its boundaries, the issue of how to address the unsightly appearance of underpasses is of significant concern to the town and its residents.

These locations serve as gateways into the town and are the first impression of the community for many visitors.

This cost-effective project will leverage $100,000 of match funding to transform an area with maximum visibility and a high volume of traffic passing the area on a daily basis. The project will also include improvements to the underpass along N.W. 154 Street.

“As your elected officials, the Council prioritizes initiatives and provides direction to the Town Manager based on your needs and direct input,” said Councilmember Tony Lama. “Residents have been clear that a renewed focus on beautification initiatives was desired. I want to thank our manager, Alex Rey, and staff, for their great work in securing this grant. Very soon we will see these improvements come to fruition.”
