Town receives $225K grant to fund Royal Oaks Park Sports Fields Lighting plan

Town of Miami Lakes has received a Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Small Community Energy Efficient Lighting Grant for $225,000 to assist in funding the Royal Oaks Park Energy Efficient Sports Fields Lighting Project.

As part of the Town’s Strategic Plan Objective to achieve universal environmental sustainability, the Town submitted the proposal along with 23 other hopeful communities throughout Florida to share in the total funding available of $1 million making the effort extremely competitive. Miami Lakes received full funding for its Royal Oaks Park grant submission.

Currently, this park provides Metal Halide outdoor sports fields lighting. The project will incorporate the purchase and installation of LED energy efficient lighting for two of the extensively utilized sports fields. The project will reduce total energy use, reduce power operating costs, and increase energy efficiency at the park, located at 16500 N.W. 87 Avenue.

Royal Oaks Park is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., 365 days a year. The 22-acre park is heavily used year-round and provides athletic fields for soccer and football, as well as a half basketball court, pavilions, fitness stations, playground, outdoor domino tables, picnic areas, and an indoor community center for special events, education programs and private parties.
