Town receives $900,000 grant from Florida Dept. of Transportation for needed Fairway Drive improvements

Fairway Drive in Miami Lakes lacks proper crossing locations, bicycle facilities and speed deterrent infrastructure along the corridor according to the Town which installed several low-cost solutions for pedestrian safety.
However grant funding was critically needed to enhance safety and infrastructure and the Town Council adopted a Resolution in February to apply for the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) Grant. In June, the Town received a FDOT award of $900,000 to complete the Fairway Drive project.
The project will cover 0.5 miles of Fairway Drive from Miami Lakes Drive to Miami Lakeway North. The work includes design and construction of bike lanes and crosswalk improvements for enhanced pedestrian and bicycle safety-related infrastructure in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The roadway would be extended to accommodate bike lanes, updated signage and pavement markings, adding speed tables and new drainage infrastructure. The project would provide much needed improvements to safely link bicyclists, pedestrians and disabled persons with limited transportation options to access housing, jobs, commerce, retail and medical facilities.
