In an effort to expand Miami-Dade’s tree canopy by leveraging local resources, Neat Streets Miami awarded the Town of Miami Lakes a Street Tree Matching Grant for its Beautification Master Plan improvements on the N.W. 154 Street Roadway Corridor Project.

Neat Streets Miami launched the street tree program this year to help advance its Million Trees Miami initiative, a community-wide effort to plant one million trees and achieve a 30 percent tree canopy cover by 2020 in Miami-Dade.

Neat Streets Miami is a multi-jurisdictional county board dedicated to the maintenance and beautification of transportation corridors, gateways and connections.

“We know that by working with our partners and leveraging resources, planting one million trees by 2020 becomes a much more achievable goal,” said Neat Streets Miami chairman, Miami-Dade Commissioner Dennis C. Moss (District 9). “Cities awarded funds this first year of our program should be very proud of their efforts to green their communities – they are providing cooler, more inviting environments with these investments.”

“I am proud that our Town has received support of the County in providing a grant to plant more trees along our N.W. 154 Street corridor,” said Mayor Michael Pizzi. “Our tree canopy is what brands our town and attracts businesses and residents to our community. Our trees and landscaping are the heart of our community and this grant will help enhance our aesthetic qualities even more.”
