On December 7, Miami Lakes Youth Activities Task Force and Miami-Dade’s Miami Lakes police section held the 15th annual Bike Rodeo and Safety Day to the delight of many residents. The event, which provided children with the opportunity to learn about bicycle safety while interacting with various branches of law enforcement officers, attracted close to 200 children at Miami Lakes Government Center.

Every child that registered received a free bike helmet, lunch provided by the Kiwanis Club of Miami Lakes, and a chance to enter into a drawing to win a free bicycle. The event was sponsored by Miami Children’s Hospital and Andy’s Police Supplies. Participants included Citizens Crime Watch of Miami-Dade County, Costco, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, Miami-Dade Corrections Department, and many more.

“For any parent, the safety of their children is of paramount importance, particularly when it comes to bike riding,” said Mayor Wayne Slaton. “This event provided participants great tools and resources on how to enjoy their bikes, all while being safe.”

“The Bike Rodeo truly showcased the partnership between our residents and the police department,” said Vice Mayor Manny Cid. “A big thank you to the Youth Activities Task Force, our Police Department, all the sponsors and volunteers. This is one of the many community policing initiatives ongoing in our town.”
