The 41st Annual Veterans Day Parade in Miami Lakes will follow a new, 8.5 mile route through this year.
Because of the threat from Tropical Storm Depression Eta, the town has moved the event back a week, from its original date of Sunday, Nov. 8 to the new date, Sunday, Nov. 15.
The parade has undergone changes, too, because of the coronavirus pandemic.
A longer route will enable spectators to practice social distancing.
Also, there will not be any marchers. Instead, 100 vehicles will drive through town, including one that will carry a helicopter, as well as historic military trucks and classic cars.
Viewers will be able to watch the spectacle from their neighborhoods.
The late Richard Wester -- a veteran of the U.S. Marines in Vietnam and U.S. Air Force and a Purple Heart medal recipient who died in May -- was named Grand Marshal. His widow, Chaplain Edna R. Quiros, will represent him in the parade.
Cars depart from Royal Oaks Park, 16500 NW 87th Ave. at 10 a.m. and will travel south on Northwest 87th Avenue and turn east on Commerce Way.
They will drive along Commerce Way and Oak Lane, and turn north at Montrose Road/Northwest 82nd Avenue.
At Northwest 154th Street, vehicles will continue east along Miami Lakes Drive.
They will turn south and follow Miami Lakeway South to Miami Lakeway North.
After crossing Northwest 67th Avenue, the parade will travel along Miami Lakeway North onto Miami Lakes Drive, and turn north on Northwest 67th Avenue.
The parade is to end at noon at Town Hall. It is sponsored by The Graham Companies, the town and Miami Lakes AutoMall.
