After winning first place at the District and State competition, Bob Graham Education Center (BGEC) Civic Engagement Academy's (CEA) We the People Team placed 3rd at the We the People National Invitational, hosted by the Center of Civic Education on May 4 through 8 at the National Conference Center in the Washington, D.C. area.

Under the direction of Jackeline Hernandez and John Brady, the 8th grade We the People teams have ranked among the top three teams in the nation for the last three years. This year’s team competed 15 strong against teams of over 30 students. They are a model of perseverance, a strong work ethic and an indomitable spirit.

They are a competitive team, but most importantly a family. The scholars will graduate BGEC with unforgettable memories, a thorough understanding of our country's rich history and a passion for the office of the citizen. They have truly continued to uphold the tenets and traditions of the CEA program and the legacy of Senator Bob Graham.

The administration of BGEC thanks Doris Servilla, Ora Harris, and Alissa Menduiña for their dedication to the team this year and all the hometown supporters for their love and encouragement. The BGEC family looks forward to continuing a legacy that will make the Town of Miami Lakes proud.
